California Adventures--Part 1

After many hours of sitting in the airport following our delayed flight, M and I arrived in California two nights ago. The first night was reserved for decompression. We hung out in the house that M grew up in and visited with his dad. The next day, the three of us had brunch and lounged somemore. In the late afternoon of the first day, we ventured out. Our first stop--Golf and Stuff. Yep, straight out of The Karate Kid...and it's just down the street! Then we headed for Downtown Disney where we met up with M's 6th grade girlfriend and her husband (no joke). It was really a lot of fun. They gave us the grand tour andeven took our photo in front of the gigantic Christmas tree in the hotel there. It was so much fun. We stayed for the fireworks show, but it must have been too windy as they never did light any. oh well.
Day two was even better. We met up with M's brother and sister-in-law and the five of us had brunch at STAX. This has become one of my favorite traditions. His brother and sister-in-law have always been so kind to me and it's a treat to spend time with M's family for a change. We talked and gabbed and planned parts of M and My's trip to Germany (they used to live there when he was in the military and gave us all kinds of good tips!).
Our second adventure on this california trip was The Arboretum of Los Angeles County. It was started by 'Lucky' Baldwin, the man who started Santa Anita Race Track. In fact, they are right across the street from each other. Anyhow, Lucky decided that he wanted to lanscape this property of his with plants from all over the world. So he did. It's really neat to walk and look at all the different trees and try to imagine that you're really there in Australia! (or Asia, for that matter). I will try to post pictures a little later.
