A lyric a day

I LOVE music and the way it makes me feel. I love to listen to the lyrics and try to figure out what message the songwriter is really trying to convey. I think I'm going to start posting about interesting lyrics as I discover them. Today's post is a two-for.

The first song is by Sarah Bareilles called Love Song.

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving, I'm gonna need a better reason to write you a love song today

I love it because to me it says "If you're only going to stay if I write a song for you, than you can go ahead a leave. There are much better reasons to be in a relationship, like love. True love speaks for itself, it doesn't need to be written." I have been in relationships where I've been told, "If you can't do this.... then we shouldn't be together." No offense, but if that is going to control whether or not you love me, then maybe we should say goodbye. Be with me because you want to be with me. It's really very simple.

The second lyric is by Ingrid Michaelson called, The Way I Am.

If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.
Cuz I love the way you call me baby.

And you take me the way I am.
Cuz I love you more than I could ever promise.

And you take me the way I am.

I love this one because it really speaks to me personally. It's like my relationship with M. There are a thousand reasons why I would do anything for him, and he takes me as I am. Just reinforces the feeling that I feel lucky to be with him.

*By the way, the music video to this song by Ingrid is really cute.

I love lyrics too. Sometimes songs that never really meant anything before will mean something after going through a particular experience. Can't wait to see you!
